China’s credit card market has annually grown 54 percent the past three years and it is expected to retain an average annual growth rate of 30 percent over the next four years. Until the end of 2008, the number of cards issued in China reached 142 million, and the number of cardholders exceeded 30 million, according to a new report, Credit Card Systems in China: Technology and Vendor Overview, from Celent, a Boston-based financial research and consulting firm.
